MATHEMATICS AS A PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE
By Mauro Marturano

I often have to deal with “math teachers,” my “colleagues.” Many colleagues know how to solve derivatives, how to draw a straight line, and how to calculate a limit. Very few, however, use mathematics as a true philosophy for understanding life.
This is one of the reasons why I always say that I am a serious mathematics teacher. As well as a serious economist. I add the word “serious” to distinguish myself from those whom I consider to be perfect automatons. 😂
These teachers, and many “economists” as well, who should also have studied mathematics seriously (but without serious teachers, how can we expect there to be so many outstanding minds?), look at charts such as those of U.S. debt, the American S&P 500, Chinese debt, or gold, and say nothing.
Exponential charts. Charts that should raise concerns. And nothing. Even supposedly brilliant minds see nothing. Everything is normal. 😂
How can someone call themselves a mathematics teacher if they cannot connect numbers to life? Instead, they should simply say: “I know how to solve limits.” That is an entirely different matter.
And perceiving danger in charts and numbers should have led—and should still lead—to NOT BELIEVING the narratives, the conspiracy theories of Ms. Ursula, Mr. Rutte, Mr. Macron, and Ms. Meloni.
