DOES SOMEONE KNOW THE STORY BEFORE IT HAPPENS?

By Mauro Marturano

I told you, at a time when there was no reason to suspect anything, about a letter from Revolut dated January 2025, in which Revolut stated very clearly that its Chinese branch would not accept transactions — in other words, would not accept exchanges — involving either citizens who had never bought crypto or European citizens who had bought crypto after January 1, 2025.

That letter clearly suggested a lack of trust both in the euro and in those who had woken up after the beginning of 2025 and decided to buy crypto through Revolut.

As I have always told you, the vast majority of blockchains are public.

What the fuck does public mean?

It means that if I buy Bitcoin through Revolut, my name is linked to that purchase in Revolut's records, and therefore linked to the fraction of coins I bought and subsequently sent to a specific address.

In other words, it is possible to link coins purchased and sent to a self-custody wallet to a first and last name.

Especially if, one day, a government wakes up and decides to ask a platform for information.

And that is exactly what happened a few days ago.

The story goes that a group of “hackers” — when I start a sentence with “the story goes,” it means I am telling you their story. Is that clear enough so far? 😂 — impersonated the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria (we're everywhere in the world! 😂) and requested users' data.

And the story goes that, following this request, Revolut immediately handed over the data.

Data which, according to the story, therefore ended up in the wrong hands.

As you can well understand — and if you don't, I'll tell you myself 😂 — the serious implications, even though the whole thing has all the hallmarks of a novel, are numerous.

But the most important one is the one that has not happened yet.

And it is this:

that these people, who have their coins in their wallets, could become targetable.

Targetable by hackers who might eventually be able to obtain their private keys and steal the coins directly.

Or “targetable” by their own government, simply because they own Bitcoin.

And that is where the real question begins:

DOES SOMEONE KNOW THE STORY BEFORE IT HAPPENS?
